Big Impact From A Big Change & A Little Change

Welcome to another Met Monday hosted by Susan over at Between Naps on The Porch. Today I am featuring a dear friends home. She asked my advice not too long ago about some changes that could be made to her home. She was getting ready to have the home painted and the balcony over the portico front was in bad shape and needed replacement. Her home is a very traditional one. I suggested taking the balcony banister down and replacing it with iron. This was an easy sale for her since she had been thinking along those same lines. She really wanted to change the entire color of her home but her hubby would have none of that. I think the style of her home is very suited for the white and black. Her and I then talked about changing the door color. Something more vibrant that the traditional black. The obvious choice was a red. We both knew a red would work but it would also be completely predictable. She was ready to strike out with something fresh and different. Sage green? Pear Green? Apple green? Gray? Robins egg blue? In the end I suggested a yellow leaning towards gold. She liked the idea and as you can see in the photo above this is what she went with.
Here are a couple before pictures. The home has lovely lines.

I love how the black iron opened up the front of the home and gave it a less heavy look than the wooden rail system did. The yellow door is so fresh!

Although replacing the rail system was a big change, painting the front door was not. That is a quick change with a big impact that anyone can do. Thank you for stopping by today and visiting. To see more transformations and ideas visit Susan here. Have a great week everyone!

  1. Your friend has a beautiful home & the changes turned it into a spectacular home! Love the black wrought iron, that was such a perfect change. The yellow/gold door is so unexpected and cheerful looking. (I want to paint my door, but haven't broached the subject to hubby yet. He likes stained wood...)

  3. Love this! My home looks similar to this one and we've talked about adding some type of portico. This one is fantastic. I am in Michigan and our home has lost so much value that we can't do any additions.

  20. Hi! So if you have ever had a moment where you meet someone and can't believe the similarities between each of you, I am having one of those! I just came to visit your blog when I was visiting the new post at Restyled Home and was so surprised to see a similar logo between us on your header. I then went to look through your blog, pictures and posts. We are so similar in taste we could be twins! I am now a follower and look forward to knowing you better. I too just had a redesign on my blog and love it! We even have Whimsy in both of our names. I too love Harlequin design! Would love to have you visit.

    Hugs,

  23. That is a GREAT change. I love the iron railing and the yellow door. It really pops now which is nice because otherwise it is kind of overshadowed by the portico roof.
