Back just in time to participate in one of my favorite events Met Monday. For those who have not read my blog before, my last Met Monday was the first steps I took to re-do this Chippendale Secretary I picked up off of Craig's List. I have added the doors and drawers but there is much left to do! It looks a bit lonely on this large expanse of wall doesn't it? No worries that will be part of my final transformation!
The hardware on this piece was very worn and in bad shape. My initial thought was to replace the hardware. Two things held me back. The first was the spacing between screw holes for the pulls were not a standard size. The second was that these handles were curved to accommodate the serpentine drawer fronts. What to do? What to do? Rather than spending what could end up being a huge amount of time and effort I quickly decided to just run down to Michael's and pick up some Rub & Buff. I am glad I did. They look nice and new without looking shiny new. Plus I KNOW the cost was much more easy on the pocket book that buying new.
Once I put the doors and drawers back in and took a good hard look at the piece in my room I came to the conclusion that it was just "TOO BLACK". In I ran with the sanding block. Mr. Whimsy had a good head shake over that one! First I spend all the effort to get it perfectly painted and then I take a sanding block to it! I just needed to take the "edge off" I told him. I went to work. Just a bit here and there was all it needed. A wee bit of distressing.
A little here and a little there!

Do you think I am done? HA! No way I still have at least three more things that need to be done to this beauty. I will give you some clues. Wallpaper, wire and work! Hopefully I will be able to do it before next Monday. I am not holding my breath. The Whimsy home needs some attention after two weeks which may keep me from working on this project. I have others of course that I can share. Thanks for joining me for Met Monday. Y'all go visit Susan at Between Naps on My Porch to see more wonderful Met Monday surprises! I personally have already viewed a couple and you will be sad to miss them.
!
It is looking really nice and what a good deal on the hardware.
